Lannings first two years compared to other Ducks coaches

Re: Lannings first two years compared to other Ducks coaches

Nice little bit of trivia, thanks for posting!

All I seem to get out of this is that the Ducks in retrospect figure out how to hire the right guy.  With the exception of Brooks, every one of these coaches won pretty much out of the gate.  And all except one moved onward or upward with the exception of Helfrich, who the artical correctly called out for being a very good offensive mind.

interesting comparisons, but too much apples & oranges. only Taggart and Lanning came from outside the program, and each installed an entirely new coaching staff. Bellotti, Chip, and Helf were assistants instrumental to the success of the program that got the HC promoted, and they kept most staff when they stepped into the HC job. Mario moved up after one year in Eugene.

a Picasso is $20 worth of dried minerals and old canvas . . . except somebody else will pay $5 mill for it. Bellotti was romanced by SC, UCLA, and Notre Dame, but chose to stay in Eugene. Chip left for the NFL, and Taggart and Mario left for programs that have won multiple NCs.

Mullens knew what he was doing last year when he locked down Lanning as best he could with a new contract and a prohibitive buyout. the rest of the college football world recognizes what Oregon has in Lanning, and they will continue to try to pry him loose. Duck fans recognize it, too; season-tic renewals are smokin like a Bob Gibson fastball, and a boatload of new buyers is waiting in the wings. expanding the north side of Autzen to make 70,000+ is in the breeze, troop.

hope someday we're gnawing on an article comparing Lanning's first five years with Cas and Bellotti.

Gotta be honest, mac; when I read this article, the first thought I had was that it would trigger DR. Boy, was I right
DR reminds me of Luther; always posting passive-aggressive articles negative of Coach Lanning and the Ducks. Never comes around after a win, but is right there after a loss.

My thought as well. He reminds me of the old beav trolls frpm O'Live. I used to enjoy laughing at their posts and miss that, but RD has filled that void.

LOOOOTHER...  That's a name I haven't heard in years...

That said, my comment was more about what you might discern from this article if you were not a follower or fan of the program and punctuated it with what we do know as the faithful.

In terms of Lanning, I see the potential of a coach who may be willing to ride this thing for the long haul like Bellotti did.  The grass ain't always greener elsewhere and sometimes your dream job is the one you have today.  As long as Knight is kicking around, this is about as good of a job in the sport as there is.  The trickle down effect of a great football program is in the successes of the other sports, which at Oregon has been very good to great.

Used to be where coaches were the ones always on the move and the players left behind created the stabiliy for the program, the opposite seems to have happened where it is better to retain a good coach if only to provide a modicum of stability with roster turnover every year...

Re: Lannings first two years compared to other Ducks coaches

I was in the stands as a crazy drunken junior in 1977, and though 4-18 didn’t sound good, my remaining brain cells tells me it was better than the two years prior.

And I’ll never recall Helfrich as good as this article reports, given the quick fall off.

Hope to see this article again after 4 years, with Lanning still at the helm. And maybe the big one?

🙄😁🥳

Ahhhhh, yes. I guess I should've read this thread before responding in the "banned: thread. I can see DR's ears steaming on this one. Probably wrote a doozy!  😄🤣

Remember the 3 ring circus that was the comment section?

That spent his entire life running dozens of troll accounts. He kept separate armies of troll accounts to like his own comments lol!

If you really ruffled his feathers he would set up a meme account trolling your user name with something similar.
